Gratuitous Space Battles: BETA (PC) preview

When I first saw the pictures and video footage of this game, I wasn't sure exactly what to make of it. I was surely intrigued and the title was certainly humorous. There's been so much to come from the Indie games movement in terms of innovation, fun and interesting gameplay. While testing this game for this preview, I kept this in mind and as I progressed into the game I found there's a lot here for the tower defense fan and the like. It's certainly not a big budget game, but it had some cool elements that I'm sure some of you could appreciate.

What is Indie, really? Lately, it's been games like World of Goo, Gish and Darwinia that have made sizable commercial splashes compared to their big budget counterparts. While the games are important examples of indie efforts, it's really the talent behind the games. Partially, if not mostly this talent comes from professionals previously employed by big production studios. Once bound to big selling concepts and proven forumlas, indie programmers are free to do almost anything their hearts and minds wish and usually with very compelling results in my opinion.

So, with that, let's get to the game and find out what awaits you in the world of Gratuitous Space Battles.
