OCZ Vertex 2E 60GB 2.5" SSD review
When we took a look at OCZ's first-generation Vertex branded drive back in March, we couldn't help but fall in love with it. Yes, it wasn't exactly bursting at the seams with capacity as you'd expect from an SSD (sporting just 60GB in the case of our sample), but it was wonderfully fast, silent running (of course, as with any SSD) and the inclusion of TRIM support meant that performance remained good even after giving the drive a hammering for a period of time.Of course, having made such waves in the SSD market OCZ were never likely to rest on their laurels, which means that we already find a Vertex 2 drive sat on our desk. Sporting a different controller to the Indilinx part used by the original Vertex but with similar capacities, the Vertex 2 looks set to put this range of SSD's performance into the stratosphere, particularly when it comes to writing data - An area where many SSDs tend to be lacking.
So, what's so great about the Vertex 2 and can it live up to the hype that we've just briefly showered upon it? Read on as we see how our 60GB review sample works out.
