Evercool Formula 2 graphics board cooler review
While it would be unfair to dismiss all reference graphics board coolers as useless out of hand, there are more often than not a number of reasons to look into replacing said cooler with something a little beefier (and perhaps prettier) from a third-party.
The most obvious of these reasons is, of course, further reducing GPU temperatures, either for your own peace of mind, to keep the system as a whole cooler, or to further your overclocking efforts. Noise is also a potential issue that would make you want to do away with the stock part for something quieter, while older graphics boards may necessitate replacing the cooler simply due to the wear and tear that comes to an ageing cooling solution, be it failing bearings on the fan or an outright failure of the cooler.
Today we're taking a look at just such a third-party cooling solution from Evercool, in the form of their Formula 2 offering. It may not support the very latest GPUs on the market from AMD and NVIDIA, but it does hold the ability to function with a not insignificant number of GPUs, promising lower temperatures than reference parts. The fan on the trusty old GeForce 8800 GT which has seen plenty of service here in the Elite Bastards review dungeon has recently threatened to give up the ghost, so we have ourselves a ready-made patient in need of a high quality replacement cooler - Can the Formula 2 fit the bill?
