NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX preview
NVIDIA's recent flagship, dual-GPU GeForce 9800 GX2 launch may have cemented the graphics giant's place as the king of the single card performance hill recently, but they clearly aren't done with the GeForce 9800 series yet. With the old G80-based GeForce 8800 GTS replaced with a new G92 sporting model a little while ago, today NVIDIA are looking to put their older G80 architecture out to pasture entirely, with the GeForce 8800 GTX finding itself replaced with the GeForce 9800 GTX. Yes, the naming scheme remains a frustrating marketing-led exercise compared to the actual shift in features between the GeForce 8 and 9 series (which certainly doesn't deserve a new generation as far as its naming scheme goes), but there are still benefits to G92 over G80 which we've been over many times before.
Although we didn't manage to get hold of a sample in time for today's launch, here's our brief run through of what the GeForce 9800 GTX is all about, to at least give you an early idea about whether you should consider locking up your wallet.
