NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2 technology preview
Today promises to be rather a big one for NVIDIA, between the launch of a new enthusiast level GPU and a similarly new motherboard chipset. While we decided to make our sample gathering and review writing priority for today the latter of those launches, in the form of the nForce 790i Ultra SLI chipset, due to the simple fact that it's more relevant to the average reader, it would be remiss of us not at least afford some coverage to the new behemoth in NVIDIA's GPU line-up as of today.
That part is, of course, the GeForce 9800 GX2, sporting two GPUs on a single device as per ATI's Radeon HD 3870 X2 which we saw launched a couple of months ago. This launch also sees the return of Quad SLI support in a new guise, while giving us some interesting points for discussion regarding the paths ATI and NVIDIA have chosen from a hardware point of view in their respective dual-GPU flagship parts. So, join us as we take a brief foray into the brave new world of the GeForce 9800 GX2 - you might want to leave your wallet behind though, lest you be tempted to spend every penny you have.
