For all the talk of larger capacity optical storage formats, and despite the relatively recent launch of Blu-Ray writers upon the PC market, for most of us DVD is still well and truly the format of choice when it comes to storing or backing up data away from our hard drives.  It's readily available in terms of purchasing blank media, it's easy to use, it's reliable, and most of all, it's really pretty cheap these days.
