AMD Radeon HD 2000 series technology preview

To say it's been a long time in coming would be an understatement - Ever since NVIDIA unveiled their G80 architecture and GeForce 8800 parts back in November of last year, we've been impatiently waiting for the response of AMD's ATI graphics division to bring some competition to the DirectX 10 market place.  Finally, here we are in May 2007, with the very much belated arrival of not just a wannabe GeForce 8800 killer, the Radeon HD 2900 XT, but a whole plethora of DirectX 10 level graphics parts to cover the entire gamut of price points for both notebook and desktop discrete graphics.

There is, of course, only one question on everybody's mind today - Was it worth the wait?  We may not yet have any Radeon HD 2900 XT samples to put through their paces here at Elite Bastards (rest assured, they'll be arriving our way soon enough), but if anything this is a blessing in disguise, as we can put our technical hat on today and take you on a deep, comprehensive look over the architecture which powers the entire Radeon HD 2000 series - And believe me, there's a lot to look at.  So, let's cut the small talk, and dive straight into the nitty gritty of seeing just how AMD have gone about laying their cards on the table in that eternal struggle against NVIDIA.
